“learn by doing”
The workshop is a co-op style collective centered around sharing practical skills, knowledge, supporting community members with time-based help. Our intention is to create work both with and for each other, as well as outside clients who align with our collective values. We hope, in the process, to reduce the barriers to art-making.

Our methodology includes: exercising practical skills, growing community and artist webs, sharing knowledge and experience, supporting community members with time-based help, offering a low-pressure space to learn, think, and create, offering institutional validity: “I am part of and regularly contribute to a larger organization—look at my special email

Our model decentralizes capital and instead focuses on the exchange of resources. Members all work for each other. There is no skill-based hierarchy.

The goal is to reduce the barriers to the art making process, offer a centralized (semi-physical) hub for artists to lean on for help, and foster a more familiar*, inclusive, and experienced new wave of creators into the larger art community.

TRADES: Time-Based Project Support

“Members” can request project support from the community.

Support can take various forms; physical and in-person time, fulfilling production roles, digital assistance (like help editing a video or using a program), advice and consultation.

The range of what sort of help can be offered is still undefined, and will solidify as the methodology is used and develops in real time; this should be a growing organism, capable of adaptation.

A key point is that this kind of exchange is for “free” or less than “market” value. Removal of Payment comes in the form of time exchange– giving time to someone else’s project earns you time based support for your project.

The purpose of this structure is to allott resources to projects that may not have otherwise been realized due to funding or network constraints.

If a project is completed through HIRING OUT* the workshop, it will be featured on the website project page.

LABS: Skill & Interest Sharing

These are skill sharing events ranging from classroom style discussions to active workshops to recreational social activities (think FIELD TRIPS!!). The focus in our labs is community building, skill development and experimentation through safe & supportive low stakes environments (deliverables not tied to money).

This model aims to grant community members access to skills that are often behind academic paywalls or expertise barriers (addresses the “must have 2 years of experience to apply” dilemma).

COMMITMENT

Artists/members are not expected to contribute value in the form of money.

Artists/members are not required to work exclusively through the workshop.

Artists/members are expected to contribute value in the form of time & projects that will uphold the values of and develop the credibility of the workshop.
